Talbot Energy Facility

Talbot Energy Facility, located in the industrial area of Box Springs, GA, is a significant site known for its critical role in energy production and management. As part of our maintenance and enhancement efforts at this facility, we undertook a comprehensive project involving the fire water tower, which is an essential component for ensuring safety and operational efficiency.

The first step in this project was sandblasting the fire water tower. This process involved using high-pressure air to propel abrasive materials, effectively removing layers of old paint, rust, and other contaminants. This thorough cleaning not only prepared the surface for new coatings but also extended the lifespan of the structure, ensuring it remains functional and safe. Our team sandblasted the interior walls, floors, and dome ceilings of two steel tanks — measuring 62 feet in diameter by 48 feet high and 86 feet in diameter by 40 feet high — to a near-white metal finish using 30/60 garnet abrasive. Following thorough blow-down and cleanup, surfaces were prepared for coating.

We applied protective coatings to safeguard the tower against the elements, including moisture, UV rays, and corrosion. These coatings are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, ensuring that the fire water tower maintains its integrity and functionality over time. Each tank interior received two coats of Phenolic Tank Shield for a total dry film thickness (DFT) of 12–18 mils, ensuring long-term corrosion protection and chemical resistance. The exterior surfaces were touched up and finished with one coat of Carboline 890 epoxy and one coat of Carboline Carbothane 134HG, achieving a total DFT of 10–15 mils.
